About the Artist – Patrick Wayner

Painted Patch Wood Studio

Patrick Wayner is a sculptor who breathes new life into reclaimed wood — transforming fragments of the past into intricate, living forms that celebrate the wild, the symbolic, and the sacred. Working from his studio in Columbus, Ohio, Wayner creates dimensional wood mosaics that merge fine craftsmanship with storytelling, using natural color, texture, and form to evoke the spirit within each creature he shapes.

Each sculpture in Wayner’s body of work — from majestic owls and falcons to mythic bears and crowned guardians — is composed of hundreds of individually carved pieces of hardwood. These layers are hand-fitted to create a living rhythm of pattern and depth, honoring both the integrity of the material and the emotion of the subject.

His practice explores the intersection between nature and myth — between what is seen and what is felt. Birds, wings, and masks recur throughout his work as symbols of transformation, protection, and spiritual awakening. Through reclaimed wood, he builds modern totems — each piece a meditation on renewal and the enduring power of the natural world.

Under the banner of Painted Patch Wood Studio, Wayner’s creations stand as both sculpture and story — tributes to flight, fate, and the eternal balance between strength and grace
